That's Dan Smith's modification on his red and white Searey to eliminate bungee/tailwheel extension/retraction issues..it is always down. It is wired down with Alabama bailing wire! He says that with his 80hp Rotax 912 having the tailwheel down on water takeoffs serves as his water takeoff attitude indicator...if his attitude is not just right the tailwheel will let him know!

Thanks for the snow photos to remind me why I am here this winter! The summer photo of your place looks like Searey heaven!

John, I understood the take of version. What about landing? That can be abrupt when tail wheel hits the water.

The trip to port st. joe (Costin airport) was some of the best flying I've ever done...John is a great preflighter and pilot...Dan Conroy has adventure down low in his soul...and I found some SeaRey buddies that love it as much or more than I...I thought I was odd to want to go crazy places and land just for chance to experience nature and friends...By the way the tail wheeel tied down does not affect landing unless you get the tail too low...the 'alabama attitude adjuster' works great....Dan Smith
