Description:
Here's GoogleEarth's view of the area, showing the ferry's course to southside.
We landed to west of the ferry dock, where the water was less jumbled, the wind a bit more steady, and there was less likelihood of big rollers from the ferry. I made a long, gradual approach to the northeast, into the wind and most of the waves, but on the first attempt I caught a big roller that I hadn't seen and when the second bounce was bigger than the first, powered up and went around. The next time I held it off until closer to the lee shore, and the landing was smooth and easy.
We turned right and taxied on the step to about even with the end of the ferry dock, where the waves were high, and then in displacement mode around the ferry and north into the channel leading to the harbor.
