This morning Carol and I joined Aventura Matt and his wife Debbie for a picnic on an island in the James River--the near end of the largest island in this archipelago. Naturally we called it Picnic Island. But by the time we left this afternoon, it had a new name...

These look like spoil islands, Don, courtesy of your channel dredging tax dollars at play. They likely 'belong' to the Corpse of Engineers.

Aha! Never occurred to me, Dan. I'll bet you're right. (I wish the Corps had dumped them a little farther from the channel, though.) <br /><br />Spoil islands. I'd never heard the term before--thanks! Googled it and found lots of hits.
