Description: I couldn't help but notice that there is a difference in the 'water' landing photos from Florida and those here in Alaska. This photo was taken today not last winter. This is at the Mt Denali (McKinley) base camp at the 7000' level on the Kahiltna Glacier. If Al Gore is right this should be a float plane landing area in a few years. Anyway this is what I was doing today instead of covering my flaps and ailerons.

Man, does this bring back memories (bad ones at that) I guess it's better there than in all that heat in Iraq.

There is plenty of time for covering flaps. How many times will you get to land on McKinley? Very cool, Chuck.

This will cool you down Chuck, this way you'll work with a bran new mind. And yes I think Gore is true about our future lets enjoy life as it is right now....

Bruno

So Chuck (CW4?), are you practicing rescues up there?

Chuck Hosack - Jul 26,2007 Viewers | Reply
Ken Yes I'm a CW4. On this mission we were helping the National Park Service haul out equipment from the base camp. Climbing season is over now. With the warm weather, the fixed wing aircraft couldn't land at the base camp anymore because the melting snow exposed crevasses on the runway. We had to drag about 4000 lbs of stuff across the snow and load it. This is the 'before' picture; I look a bit more frazzled in the 'after' picture.

A water landing there could happen even if Al Gore is only half right. He conveniently missed that the rest of the solar system is experiencing global warming too. Among other things, the ice caps on Mars are melting in spite of an acute shortage of human pollution there.

Turns out the sun's heat output is variable, which explains why, once you uncook the statistics, some centuries warmer or cooler than others as well as the ice ages we have every 20,000 years or so. The 'man made global warming' zealots had to cook the statistics of the last 2 millenia to cover up the fact that we had a medieval warm period when life and culture flourished. It was called 'the Renaissance'. Life was easier then because crops flourished in the warmer environment and people had time to devote to art, music, and culture. There was a marked shortage of cars and pollution back then, so it must have been the sun's variable output.

Politicians wouldn't lie to us so they could make billions off a 'carbon tax' they've been talking about now would they?

I politely suggest that S&D isn't really the place to debate global warming. Just make sure your seaplane has both a heater and windows that open wide. Watch for boat wakes and/or crevasses.

Chuck if you come and pick me up I'd gladly give you a hand loading : - )
