About the same time, Eric Batterman flew his Saratoga into Penn Yan (KPEO), at the north end of the lake. I picked him up and, after screwing around over and on the lake for a while, we all ended up at the home of Dale Kramer and Carmen Waters. Dale is the designer of the Lazair. (My story about meeting him two years ago is here on STS somewhere.) He was in very bad sailplane crash in West Virginia last spring--set three world records, but lay under the wreckage for more than 24 hours, while a foot of snow fell on him. He didn't lose any body parts, but is still mending--leg in a cast and an arm that will eventually have to be re-broken and set.
