Description: “You should fly this airplane straight back to the hangar and get it fixed!”

“Hmmm….perhaps, but there is always the chance that more flying will fix any problem. Besides, the day is shot because Ollie can’t come fix the gear until late afternoon. Why waste a perfectly good flight by straightening up and flying right?”

When it comes to flying I have flexible and situational ethics. I decided to fly up the Withlachoochee River (or at least the unnatural manifestation that the Corpse of Engineers would like all rivers to be).

The idea of a canal across the Florida peninsula dates back to King Phillip II of Spain in the late 1500’s. It was argued fiercely for centuries, but President Lyndon Johnson actually got things started in 1963 by blowing up some dirt to start the project. Fortunately for Florida’s natural things, less than a third was built and President Nixon stopped the project in 1971 (it didn’t actually die, however, until 1991).

This part of the canal is pretty short. It terminates at the locks on Lake Rousseau.

Yeah, it is a tight fit between the stumps, but there is a marked channel.

But other than the stumps, fallen trees, shallows, alligators, and water too dark to see anything under the surface, what's the problem?      Attachments:
