Description: Morgan City was the filming location of the first Tarzan movie. The nearby swamps were Tarzan’s jungle. This alone surely establishes the historical significance of the city.

The weakened state of the control structures at Old River that force the Mississippi to remain in its current channel can cause the Corpse of Engineers to divert flood waters into the Atchafalaya. This has downstream consequences for Morgan City.

In attempting to protect Morgan City from the water dumping, the Corpse has built fortress walls around the town. This has the added benefit of keeping them safe from marauding terrorists in river boats.

The design basis for the walls and levees at Morgan City are 1.5 million cubic feet per second. The control structure at Old River can pass 750,000 cfs. The relief structure at Morganza can pass 600,000 cfs. Do the math. There isn’t much room for river breaches bypassing the structures during flood stage.
