Description:
After clearing customs, Diego Zambrano arrived to claim his new airplane. I had about thirty minutes to go over the airplane with him before I had to leave to catch my flight. There was a lot to cover. He listened attentively to the massive information download. When I finished the rapid fire dissertation I paused to catch my breath.
“Can we go for a demonstration flight now?”
“I’ve got an airplane to catch.”
There was a long pause. “I’d very much appreciate if you could fly back to Mexico with me. We can get you on a flight home from Monterey.”
“I’ve already got a ticket home and I don’t have a passport with me.”
“I will cover your expenses and we can have the passport sent to my office in Monterrey. I would very much appreciate a demonstration of the airplane. I’m sure you will enjoy your time in Mexico.”
Now I was starting to get concerned. “How much time do you have in a SeaRey?”
“I went on a demonstration flight several months ago with Kerry.”
“That’s it? What about other aircraft?”
“I have 700 hours in airplanes and helicopters. I have a Citabria for tail wheel experience.”
Now I was definitely concerned. “Didn’t anyone tell you that I’m not an instructor? You need at least five to ten hours of transition training for the SeaRey.”
“I understand. All I want is for you to fly with me for a few hours until I am comfortable.”
I was definitely uncomfortable with the proposition. I looked at my watch. I had to leave immediately to catch my flight. I looked at the airplane. It was such a nice airplane.
Dagnabit! “Okay,” I said, “let me see if I can get my passport sent.” As Briar Rabbit would say, “Please don’t throw me into the briar patch!”
“You won’t need a passport to get into Mexico. I’ll take care of that. If necessary, we can fly back to Reynosa and drive you across the border. You don’t need a passport to enter by car or on foot.”
Well that makes a lot of sense! I wonder if terrorists know about this open border. Oh, I forgot….terrorists only arrive by airplane.
It was late in the afternoon. An emergency call to Ann got her headed over to the Federal Express office with my passport. Diego and I got in the airplane and headed to Mexico.

DAN, THANK YOU! For such a GREAT Adventure!
I have traveled to Mexico,
many times, and have found the natives, to be very, very helpful and friendly.
I actually got lost in Mexico city, trying to attend a friends wedding, after conversing
with a Toll booth change collector of all things, he proceeded to close his Toll booth, jumped in the rental car with us and drove us to the wedding! Left me with a Great impression!
Glad to see and hear of your Great Adventure!
AGAIN THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
