John, are you flying your new SR?

John Robert Dunlop - Feb 12,2008 Viewers | Reply
Not yet Frank. This was Bob Toerner's steed.

Darrell Lynds - Feb 12,2008 Viewers | Reply
Yeah whatever John... I know a little low flying does not 'concern' you in the least. I should explain folks... John is the only guy I know that has to list an incident like this on his insurance report.
Aircraft type: starfighter
incident: ejection from aircraft
explanation: aircraft on fire
Kenneth Leonard - Feb 12,2008 Viewers | Reply
    That requires some further data:
Date: 9th Jul 1969
Service: RCAF
Aircraft Type: CF104
Reg: 104831
Unit: 4 Wing Baden
Reason: In flight fire due to foreign object damage
Pilot: Capt. J.R. Dunlop
Type seat: (Dirty) Lockheed C-2
I can't get the picture of the young Capt D to come across.

JD - if you would prefer it removed. Say the word and it shall be so.

Darrell Lynds - Feb 13,2008 Viewers | Reply
No worries Ken, if you have to remove it we have much more material from the Searey beach BBQ party later that evening.

<lol> no problemo Ken! What does '(Dirty) Lockheed C-2' mean? Those seats worked a lot better than the downward variety and at least gave us 90 knot capability if ejecting on the runway. Remember, this was 40 years ago! The newer Martin Baker had zero zero but as I recall, those only showed up on newer aircraft. I could be wrong..

I added the 'dirty' comment on the type of ejection seat as a joke. I know my seat would be dirty after I had to use it...
The 1980s? seats will get you to the surface from 40' under water...for when you flop off a carrier. I believe the F-22 has a few mods to survive ejecting supersonic. I know an F-15E crew did and the cp lost his head. The pilot survived with many broken bones and then had to sit in a sloshing life raft for a couple of hours listening to his bones grind before rescue.
