Description: This week was daddy day camp around here because big sis was off at Girl Scout Camp. We played mini-golf, rode the 4-wheeler, explored the woods, learned how to wire hanger lights, dug trenches with a ditch-witch, learned to waterski (until the boat broke down), learned how to not fix a boat, and on the last day we went flying in search of good swimming holes.

It had been 2 years since Elvis had flown with me. He was 3 then and a little bit of a cockpit management issue. He hardly looked out of the cockpit and was always wanting to push buttons and became fixated with pulling the inflate string on his emergency pfd. 'Daddy can I pull this now?'

'NO!!!!! Don't ever pull that... I mean, er, unless there's an acci.... I mean unless you need to...'

'We'll I need it open, can I open it now?'

'Elvis, so help me if you pull that, I will... ok, if you pull that we will crash. ok? crash!'

'So what would happen?'

'ugggh! Just don't pull that!'

He didn't but I was constantly concerned that I was going to have to deal with an inflating pfd on the passenger side at any moment.

This time was different. As soon as we took off, he stopped making spooky noises in the headset and his face was out the window and his head was on a swivel. 'Daddy it looks like the houses could fit in my hand. Look at that funny barn... hey whats that big thing over there?', etc, etc.

It was great. We had packed up a days worth of supplies and set out looking for swimming holes. We flew and swam, swam and flew. Even on the way home as the excitement of the day and the drum of the motor made his eyelids heavy and his head lean over to the side, he was still trying to negociate an alternate route.

I wish you could freeze kids at certain ages for a few years. I can't beleive how fast they are growing up.

Nice picture Brett! Glad to see the water is warm enough to swim in.

So warm (as Martha knows) that after the kids go to bed one often doesn't bother subjecting their swimsuit to the high red clay content of the water

You're in big trouble when Alex sees this picture, Brett! There is a basic rule of mommy photography: no stuffing the kid with peanut butter crackers before shooting. I guess it just goes to show that breaking the rules can produce some great results. Good show and good flying.

He's a cheekie monkey... always! Serious photos are only captured 'in action'.

Hey man, how about a few pics with the ol man in the pic too. It's been a while, summer's here, so take a few more photos for the group. Glad to see that Elvis takes after his mom, as he's a good lookin' bugger.

OK Rick, I have my assignment... for now here's one from the same download. they're few and far between. I'm usually the picture taker not the takee... thats why I haven't been posting much since I moved to Tennessee. I lost my wingman. (oh yea, and also I'm no longer working in corporate America BS so now I really have to work!) Steve Lynch, the Lake Buc pilot was the wonderfull photographer whose pictures inspired me to write and post and subsequently get published. I never knew how much he did until after we moved... but the move has been everything we had hoped for! Weakley Field is a paradise. Come on down (or up...) and thats for all of ya'll. Charlie Pickett has been here a couple of times, Phil Mendleson once and rumor has it that Jon Ladd and fam is on their way... the guest 'wing' is always open Attachments:

Congratulations on setting such a great example for your son. He will remember and cherish, all the quality time you spent with him, growing up.Perhaps He will end up,
a pilot as well!
Paradise, is certainly an accurate description of your, 'Country estate', unfortunately,
I have not been back up to Fort Campbell, since our last visit to your home.
my daughter, and her husband are on a twenty two month deployment, to Iraq.
I look forward to their safe return, and a great reason to fly up for a revisit. Best!!
