Description:
The Bedford airport (BFR) promised fuel and a courtesy car to carry us to lunch. The 100LL was available, as reported, but the courtesy car was no where in sight. I settled for some leaded power and looked for the vending machine.
Undeterred by the temporary setback, Richard, found Claude. Claude was a local pilot, 83 years young, and living next to the airport. He had just returned from taking a local young man for a first flight in his C172. Claude volunteered to take us in his hybrid car to get fuel and food.
Evaluating options for getting my transponder checked, I decided the best deal would be the airplaneās home field in southern Michigan. Randy had told me there was a school there with an avionics repair shop. I figured I could quickly get the transponder checked and be on my way to the Gaggle.
The way I was headed offered slow progress with a head wind. I pointed out that Richard could make good time to his cottage in Michigan via a more direct route. I could meet him there when the transponder was fixed and we could launch to Canada.
It was agreed. I left Richard and continued due north.
