Description:
Passing the big city of Indianapolis I decided to check again on the transponder. I called up Approach Control and asked. They couldn’t see me at all and told me, in no uncertain terms, to stay away from their crowded airspace. Fine.
It seemed the problem was worse than I had imagined. Not only was the transponder not within test date, it definitely wasn’t working at all.
I decided to land at a nearby airport before the end of the workday and make some phone calls to more avionic repair shops. (I still hadn't been able to talk to anyone at Randy's field.)
The lady at Logansport (GGP) couldn’t have been more helpful. She got on her computer and checked for repair shops on my flight path.
After many calls I found several on the way to the Gaggle that would check it out. I figured, however, that I would get prompter service from Randy’s home airport. The fact that I hadn't gotten a return call probably just meant the repair guy was working out in the hangar. Fatefully deciding on faith that it would all work out, I laid in a flight path directly to the unheard from repair place.
