Description: Having crossed the Lake Huron entrance to Georgian Bay, the lakes and bays of Manitoulin Island stretched ahead. Right on the southern edge is the ferry port for passengers arriving from or embarking to Tobermory. Doug and I took this ferry years ago on our first drive to Oshkosh.

I passed to the south of Gore Bay airport so missed a shot of this Customs gateway to Canada. Just before Drummond Island was this huge strip mine. Probably Dan can educate us on the material but I think maybe limestone..

Now I would normally have cleared US Customs and Border Protection at this Drummond Island airport but these good folks now don’t show till noon, much too late for a SeaRey heading for Oshkosh..

So I flew on to Chippewa County Airport where I was informed that I was four hours too early! (They had recorded my 1500 UCT ETA as local time. Doesn’t everyone know that ex airline pilots are prone to using Greenwich time?!) After threatening to make me “cross my legs” for three hours the supervisor permitted me a pee break and a quick flight to Sanderson Field to clear.. (I was in such a hurry that I didn’t realize I was in Canadian Sault’s airspace until I was almost on the ground. I think they are still looking for me..)
