Description: “Today what heights we’ll hit, on to the show this is it.”

That was what Bugs Bunny sang before his show. It seemed appropriate to recall before a trip to the air show at Oshkosh.

The trip was not intended to be a song. It was a semi-serious ferry a flight to get a SeaRey to Oshkosh for demonstration flying. Anytime someone offers some free flying, I’m there to do it. I quickly volunteered to fly PA’s airplane to the big show.

The trip got off to a slow start. When I went to pick up the airplane, the log books showed it was just over a year old. It just barely needed an annual inspection. On a weekend. “Good luck with that!” I figured.

Well, the good luck was that Ollie Kennedy agreed to do it and Tim Johnson agreed (at least I hope he did) to give up his weekend work slot to get it done. The annual was completed in record time and the airplane delivered to me on Sunday.

With afternoon thunderstorms already popping, an early morning start on Monday seemed prudent. It was a good plan except that the power company decided Monday morning would be a good time for maintenance. I arrived at the hangar only to find I couldn’t open the door…no electricity. It was very late morning before that could be sorted out.

The race with building thunderstorms had to be delayed when I spotted a huge splash from a dragline. It probably seemed strange to them to have an observer circling overhead just watching the splashes.
