Description: An opportunity to get gas on a grass strip that magically appears in the flight path makes for SeaRey serendipity. Lowell Airpark had some beautiful green, smoothly rolling grass set in between the cornfields. Perfectly delicious.

It was late in the afternoon and I was lucky to catch Mr.Baily as he was closing the hangar for the day. He was happy to fill ‘er up and tell some tales of cornfield flying (he said three balled up aircraft had been recovered in past years from the 9’ high cornfields).

I was offered all the apples or corn I cared to pick. When I demurred he pointed out that he had the finest popcorn plants in the whole county. I explained I didn’t pack my popper.

“Well, sir, just stop on the way back down and we’ll fix you up!” I was honestly non-committal though I appreciated his enthusiasm.

Mr. Baily’s price for 100LL was $4.50 per gallon, a bargain. From listening to him talk, I suspect he isn’t so much as running a business as just having fun.
