Description: The Hawaii Mars flew onto Lake Oroville, CA yesterday evening. She will be stationed here for a bit, waiting for a call to fight fires. You don't realize how big she is until you get right up next to her.

Nice. A great illustration of opposite ends of the spectrum, Tom.

Thanks Dan, It is a rare opportunity to see this plane, and an even rarer opportunity to be able to snap a photo with your own SeaRey in the picture. It will probably never happen again.

    Hi Tom:

Fantastic pics! I have seen pictures of the Mars in the past but had no idea that it was so large.

Best,
Larry

Terrific, Tom! What a thrill that must have been for you. I think 'Martin Mars1' suggests the difference in size even better than the top photo. The Mars' float and struts appear to be about the same size as your entire SeaRey. Zowie!

Don, the float is the same size as the SeaRey! Here's a pics for a little better comparison. Larry, she is awesome when you're right next to her. Attachments:

Tom, the speaker at the Sun-N-Fun Seabirds dinner in 2007 was a Mars pilot from the old days when they flew regular passenger service to the Orient. I can't remember his name, but he had lots of interesting stories to tell about it.

This is definitely a photo candidate for the Seaplane Association Magazine.

I imagine that the t/o wake would drown the SR
