Description: I've finally had a chance to use the camera Tony G. sent me.
The cameraship today is my Stingray N1144D, SN 5 (of only seven). Here it's tied up in front of my place on Little Pushaw Lake in Maine. It's not a good place to leave long-term so I hangar it at Old Town airport. When pilots ask me what I have for a plane, I usually say 'it's a single-place Searey' since no one's heard of a Stingray. It's just easier.

That is one great looking camera ship, Mark. It is the only platform I would believe is better than a SeaRey for shooting the world from above.

I wonder if all 7 stingrays are still flying? Does anyone know the status of the other 6? Or why only 7 were built? Interesting makes you wonder.

Mark, What is the empty weight of the Stingray?

It reminds me of a baby alligator, nice plane Mark, and nice pics.

There was a stingrey for sale at Peter O Knight airport in St. Pete a couple of years ago.

Tom, thats a great question and I'd love to know too. I've done a database search on them, which is not clear on a couple of them. One is in California (which is recorded as having a turbine engine!!!), one is in Georgia, one in N. Carolina, and the others I believe are in Florida, in unknown flying conditions. I'd love to have a Stingray gathering (like at Garner's) someday if I knew how to contact the other owners. Getting 3 or 4 together would be great.

The one in Georgia was featured in a Kitplanes article many years ago when it was flown around the country by owner Ben Cole; that's where I learned of them. I think he still owns his.

I was told that PA felt that most people wanted two-seaters, the Stingray kit was almost the same price as a Searey (at the time), so they decided to discontinue the Stingrays and focus on the Seareys. Personally I think it's a shame, it's a great bird and I feel very fortunate to find one for sale and buy it (about 5 years ago; I'm it's third owner). It flies great and handles very nicely on the water.

The empty weight is recorded as 720 lbs. It has a 912UL with two blade Warp prop.
