Description:
This is the James River upstream of Richmond, VA. The view is to the east, with the city on the horizon.
I wanted to land in the straight stretch just above the field on the left (north) bank. But a few years ago while taking off after a too-long step-taxi there I was surprised by a wire stretched across the river.
I flew over a couple of times looking for the wires, but couldn't spot them, and so decided to land farther downstream, between the first and second bends, near the top of the photo, where I knew it was safe.
