Wow, you sure do need some rain. The good news is you can handle a record crowd of Seareyers. Looking forward to it.

How do you get your plane out?!

Your town obviously needs to increase your property taxes as your land size has about doubled. I remember having to move about 100 feet from your shoreline before I could put my gear down when I visited as it was so shallow.

John: In 2005 we had water all the way up in the yard from hurricanes Charley, Fran and Jeanne that all went right over the house.
The water started receding from that point on and hasn’t stopped. It is now down more than it was in 2000, the year of our first fly-in. In that first and second year we jacked up a few SeaReys when the gears collapse trying to taxing out of the water. The soft sand along the shoreline in many of the lakes here in Florida can be a real problem and if you have to navigate through the stuff every time you fly, you get real inventive. The sand is pretty packed down this year and has a lot of small clam shells mixed in to help keep it from turning into sugar sand. I have learned how to drive in and out of the water, the one you don't want to do is stop you need to keep your speed up as you drive in and out. I really haven't had much trouble in at my place but it's a good idea to beach it and get out and check for holes in the soft sand before you attempt to drive out. I have wide tires and I keep the pressure on the low side. I can also attribute my resent lack of trouble to the fact that my electric gear is a whole lot stronger than my old manual. I can now bounce along and hit holes in the sand and not worry too much. To help with the soft sand in the water I have two 12’ rows of heavy 4'X4' plastic orange crate lids placed in the water about where each tire start to hit as you drive out. These lids have been the best thing I have tried so far, I can move them in or out with the water level. I have also found that these 4’X 8’ plastic lattice that you can get from most home improvement stores works great to lay down on the sand. It is heavy enough that the weight won’t damage it. I have stick reflectors marking the path over the plastic lids in the water so it makes it pretty easy to drive out. The canal next to the property is almost dry now, no parking planes in the canal this year. I have driven the SeaRey to and from the hanger along side of the house for a long time; it works better than driving down ramp into the canal did. The only real problem was navigating between the trees near the side of the house, the two big ones had to be taken down this last hurricane season because they died due to the hurricanes or the drought.
Ah, Russ you can navigate along the side without hitting anything? That must be impressive!

    Russ,

After several fruitless years of trying to get to your splash in, I finally have gotten the times arranged to make it htis year.

I know in the past, you or someone has sent a map of how to get to your place, either by air or car. I will be driving and would greatly appreciate some directions.

    Gene,

Here's a link to an old thread - I assume the directions should still be good!

http://www.seaplanedelights.com/isapi.dll?c=content&htx=view
&siteid=CnhLAQ&contentid=ZZZZZTYR&contentclass=NEW

John: In the picture you can see at the top of the ramp the leads into the canal to Sega Palms. I taxi between them and onto the dead grass next to the house, it looks tight but there is plenty of room. If look close you can see the two stumps from the trees that were removed last year.
The grass beside the house is on about a 10 degree slope so I hold the breaks on as I taxi down the ramp onto the grass, it's a bit of an obstacle course but one dose what one needs to do to fly.
In about an hour I'm doing it again.

Hey guys sorry I have been busy getting things ready for the fly-in.
Here are flying and driving direction to the gathering.

Welcome To Garner's Landing

Garner's Landing is a private seaplane base and can be found on VFR terminal
aeronautical charts for the Tampa/Orlando area. The identifier is 1FL0.
Garner's Landing is located at N28:06.600 W081:48.8000. in the Northwest
corner of Lake Arietta, at 817 Arietta Drive, Auburndale, Florida. our phone is
863-968-9898.
Lake Arietta is over one mile across and has lakefront homes on the West, East,
and South ends. The north end is a cow pasture. Depending on the wind
direction we would ask that you refrain from making approaches over homes
and/or boaters, although the boating is usually light.
We will be monitoring air to air frequency the old Gator fric123.375 and
123.050 for (GIF-Winter Haven Airport) during the Gathering. There is a wind
sock located lakeside. We will be parking planes on our property so please
monitor 123.375 within a couple of miles of Garner's Landing. When coming
from the North you will over fly Fantasy of Flight, two miles to the north of
Garner's Landing, Fantasy of Flight may have traffic in the area as well as
Winter Haven Airport.
Driving to Garner's Landing.
The I-4 runs between Orlando and Tampa. From the I-4 take exit 44 (old exit 21)
south, this is State Road 559 or (Polk City Rd). Go approximately 3.6 miles and
turn right onto Gapway Rd. Go 11/2 miles (at about the 11/4 mile marker on
Gapway Rd. if you look to your left you can see Garner=s Landing across the
cow pasture. It's the big gray house on the lake) to the stop sign and turn left
onto Berkley Rd. which is State Rd. 655 going south. Go one quarter mile and
turn left onto Arietta Boulevard. This is a short street.
At the stop sign turn right onto Eugena Drive another short street and a left onto
Anderson Drive, which at the next corner turns into Arietta Drive as you turn
left. Our house is at the next corner which is the corner of Arietta Drive and
Grimes Drive.
From Winter Haven Airport turn left out of the airport, which is 21 Street N. W.
This winds around to Highway 92. Turn left onto Hwy 92. Go 4.2 miles. Turn
right onto Berkley Rd. which is State Rd. 655 going north. Go 3.7 miles and then
turn right onto Arietta Blvd. This is a short street. At the stop sign turn right onto
Eugena Drive another short street and a left onto Anderson Drive which at the
next corner turns into Arietta Drive as you turn left. Our house is at the next
corner which is the corner of Arietta Drive and Grimes Drive.
Most of the motels in the area are located in Winter Haven on Highway 17.
There is a new Super 8 Motel located about 3/4 of a mile East of the Winter
Haven Airport, as the crow flies, but you wouldn't want to try walking to it. The
Super 8 is located at 2275 8th St. and Highway 17 NW. The phone number is
863- 401-8211.
The other three motels we would recommend are the Holiday Inn. of Winter
Haven, at 1150 3rd St SW which is Hwy 17. The phone number is 863 294 4451.
The Howard Johnson is next door, the phone number is 863 294-7321. The Days
Inn is located at 200 Cypress Gardens Blvd. Call 800-DAYS-INN or 863
299-1151 The Days Inn is a half mile south of the Holiday Inn on Cypress
Gardens Blvd. There are many restaurants located on Cypress Gardens Blvd.
A note on the parking on the street near our house. Please park so that our
neighbors can get out of their driveways. We will have signs and red cones out
in the places that we can park cars on Arietta Drive. and Grimes Drive.

G'day back Rob, is the weather getting better down there. If you can send some this way we need the rain. We have had Garner's Landing on and off the market for some time. Property is not selling that well as you know but if someone wants a great place to have a seaplane nest this is it. Lou and I want to get some wheels and go on a roll about with the SeaRey in tow. So, if you know someone that wants a great place on beautiful clean lake in Central Fl. we can make them a great deal.
