Description: Sunday was the Summer Solstice--the longest day of the year. The temperature was in the mid-8s, but it was too windy to fly for SeaRey fun--20G29 directly across the runway at KFCI.

But flying isn't absolutely everything--not even WATER flying--and fortunately, Carol and I had another plan. We spent almost all of the day with Tommy Crump. Tommy tows hang gliders from speedboats and is building a Glasstar on floats. But that day he was going to take it easy.

Here he is checking the wind with his very cool Dwyer Wind Gauge. The wind in his yard, buffered by the trees, averaged 10 knots. Down on the open water of the James River it was about 15 knots, with gusts to 20 or 25.
