Description: I had to high-tail it past Philadelphia in the afternoon to beat the 3:15 deadline when a 30-mile presidential TFR was to commence and make life difficult for pilots in the area. The FAA had announced it several days earlier, and the briefers knew about it. But it never, ever showed up on the AOPA's Internet Flight Planner or Garmin's Pilot My-Cast for cellphones (both of which get data from DUATs), so it's likely that pilots relying on them for TFR announcements found themselves with Blackhawk or F-16 escorts.

I got through with an hour to spare. The air was lumpy at every altitude I tried until I got to the Bay, and then I flew into a different air mass and it was perfectly smooth.

Now, you can laugh about automation in SeaReys--and generally I'll join right in. It just isn't necessary. But over the Bay the going was so easy that I switched on the autopilot and sat back to enjoy the view.

At the Rappahannock River these sentinals were waiting for me. But the air stayed smooth and the AP kept right on flying straight and level.
