Description: What if the pilot was simply parking for a few minutes to go get beer? According to the NTSB, he might have run out of beer luck.

Before the flight the pilot and passenger were seen having a few beers. That may have contributed to their difficulty in taxing out for departure. The tower just went ahead and cleared them for departure after they taxied on to the runway without clearance.

The happy crew made it to Lake Harney before one engine starting sputtering. Unhappily the right wing hit the water and they cartwheeled to a crash landing. Amazingly, they both survived.

The NTSB decided that flying after a few beers showed poor judgment. They also said that the pilot failed to maintain a “proper altitude.” (They really do pay these guys to figure out this stuff.) A fuel line that had failed due to “fatigue” even merited a mention. I’m pretty sure the local paper cited the failure to file a flight plan.

This plane has bullet holes in it. I guess every state has their rednecks.
