Description: Check out the new spring ringing wall. Construction of the new retaining wall exposed an old river bottom. A rapid rise in sea level 6000 years ago increased pressure in the Florida aquifer and made the spring spring forth with sufficient power to start its own river.

Lots of artifacts (old gourds, axed logs and other things that interest archeologists) were found in the wall foundation. There were also some arrowheads dating back to the Middle Archaic Period (7000 to 5000 years ago).

Archeologists reported that hardened feces were also recovered from the dig. They couldn’t tell whether they were of human or alligator origin. Apparently it is difficult to tell the difference. Who knew humans and alligators have this kind of similarity?

As a young man I use to enjoy retrieving petrified alligator dung from Ichetucknee springs run. It makes a great gag gift and it is hard to tell the difference visually.
