Description:
Miles from nowhere; I guess I’ll take my time. (Cat Stevens) The day I visited the Horizontal Waterfalls (See Australian Odyssey-3) was a long one. I took off from Derby at dawn and by the end of the day had logged 10.1 hours of flying with 4 land landings and 93 water landings at more than 50 separate locations. As I approached my destination I was tired and low on fuel. I was “Miles from nowhere” and my destination (Kununurra) was on the other side of this scary looking monster storm cell. My ground speed had dropped to 35 kts as I approached the massive downdraft from the storm cell. As I was pondering my options, with Cat Stevens words on my mind, I saw a dirt road! It looked very inviting, “I guess I’ll take my time”. The strong wind, blustery conditions and turbulence, with ditches on both sides of the road severely tested my landing skills! With considerable relief I tied the SeaRey down and waited for the storm to pass (the photo was taken after most of the storm cell had passed and I was preparing to depart). I took off down the road and landed at my destination as the sun set. What a day! As “the Cat” said, “Miles from nowhere; I guess I’ll take my time; Oh yeh, to reach there.”

Ross, what you're doing is the kind of stuff I dream of doing when my plane is built.
I'm scoring 11 out of 10 for this.
10 hours + flying in a day,
Boldly going where no 'rey has gone before
More landings than I' ve got fingers and toes (how do you keep count!)
Smart decisions on safety...
Getting out there and doing it, and sharing it all with great pics and storys

Legend! Look forward to meeting you if you come to Sydney,(I'm building in the same hanger as Rob's office) or during the round Australia flight I want to do.

Ross, you look very confidend in you and your nice little bird.
Far from everything wow....
I like it Ross, where you alone in the cockpit ?
How did you plannified your refulling ? In a nowhere place.

10 hours X 4 gallons per hour = 40 gallons hummm my math is correct ?...ehhehe.
So 40 gal / 26 = 1.5 pit stop

For me with my 18 gallons tank.
So 40 gal / 18 gal = 2.2 stop .
You'll ask yourself, Bruno how the .2 will be made...in the air of coarse.....

Do you bring a portable gaz tank for hazards situations, plan B,C, or even D ?

Do you fill it with 100LL at airport ? or at Boat marinas for Super unleded ?

For my part it the most important part is refueling and weather of corse...

Hug
Bruno
