Yes, the picture would have been cleaner without the float, Greg. But with it, there's a story and a
context.

Do these stick ons come off after awhile? I like this sort of thing but if they come off bit by bit
then it's not so good. We have fancy colour schemes on trucks and with a bit of a power
wash some of the pieces come unstuck so we have to get it done again. Guess the hull bits
get a water blast. Any ideas? Does paint come off after a year or two or ten? I have a few
months to figure this out but it is in the back of my mind.

    Bob,
I deal with this type of vinyl, stick ons, in my business and there are many different types and quality of vinyl. The pros and cons are there and can be related to paint on a vehicle. The cheaper vinyls are only made to last 3 years in an exterior environment. The adhesive on the back of the vinyl can be ordered to be very aggressive or easily releasable. They use various types on automobiles which hold up pretty well even through power washings, although I have seen some people take the paint off their car with a power washer. Certain types and colors (reds and blues) don't hold up as well under UV, most will hold up well with wind speeds up to 200 mph, many hold up reasonably well with abrasion if the proper product/adhesive is used. There are two main types of manufacturing processes for vinyl, Calendered and Cast. Both are good but typically the cast type is used on vehicles. It is thinner and more stable for shrink/swell issues. Usually more expensive as well. They advertise that cast vinyl is good for 5-8 years outside and the calendared for 3-5 yrs, but I have had both types on my airplane for 5 yrs and they are doing well so far. It is, only vinyl and really isn't a replacement for paint although with a little creativity the paint and vinyl can be used together to make outstanding color schemes for a SeaRey.

Re: the 'perfect' photo - the sponson doesn't cover the plane at all. That's an easy Photoshop fix.
