Description: The “cut” at Killarney is a great harbour for boats. With the airport pumps unexpectantly (who reads NOTAMS on a Gaggle) under renovation we had to dilute our high octane with marina gas.

I read somewhere that you can use 87 oct mogas in a 914 if you are going to use it right <br />away.

In theory, if you either disable the turbo or don't use enough throttle to engage it (manifold pressure no greater than sea level), you are just flying a 912UL and they fly fine on 87 octane. It's the boost that requires a higher level. That said, I'd only do it in a pinch.

That's an interesting point, Ken. I've never tried taking off with the power at 30 inches (29.92), but it should be enlightening to try. It needs the prop pitched pretty flat, though.

We had two 912s two 914 and one 912. I believe all had at least a third of a tank of Sunoco 94 before we added the marina's 87..
