Bruno - if you want to read the bible on Lake aircraft, pick of a copy of 'Go to Hull' by Steve Reep.
I loaned my copy to someone and never got it back.

http://www.amazon.com/Go-Hull-Gospel-According-Stephen/dp/09
63998455

These are very expensive planes to maintain.

Bruno about eight years ago in BS, that is Before Searey, I did some research. I also was very impressed with The Lake, and admittedly it is a great solid IFR platform.
I flew a few hours in a few of them and I was impressed. However one of the pilots I flew with told me he spent on average eight to ten hours of maintence for every hour of flight.... I was aghast, the Searey people had told me they averaged ten hours of flight for every hour of maintence... need I say more...........

    Hi Bruno:

The hangar next to mine houses a Lake. The owner is a great guy who loves his bird, but it is not wise to bring up 'maintenance costs' when he is around. He confided to me what his annual operating/maintenance costs are and it truly shocked me. One could buy a used SeaRey for the amount mentioned.

Best,
Larry

yeah but you can't haul anything in a searey and you have to keep seareys in a hangar or else the fabric will suffer. Hangars cost $600/month down by me, if they're available at all.

Randy, PA kept the factory ship outside for several years, and I know of several other SeaReys that are always out in the weather without any appreciable damage to the fabric. If the fabric work was done properly, it should last at least 20 years outdoors.

well the owner is a certified mecanic so he does his maintenance that lower the cost tI'always be at a mercy of someone.... I dont like that...

I hope you are right Don. Mine has been outdoors for 8 years and counting........

Jeff, you can remove an inspection cover under a white area in the upper wing fabric and on a dark night shine a bright light onto the upper surface. If you can't see the light coming through the fabric, Roberta got enough Poly-Spray on to protect it just about forever.

I know of several Seareys kept outside in the Florida sunshine, not the preference but very doable with proper maintainence.....
