Description: The outer islands are governed by local chiefs. Before using their beaches or reefs, it is customary to pay respect to them by bringing a gift (“sevusevu”) of yaqona (kava root). To deliver the sevusevu we took the helicopter and landed at the school soccer field. The kids waited impatiently by their instructors until given the okay to go see the copter. When “go” came, they went. Fast.

Did you know (I'm sure you do) Dan, that Fiji students use English in school and <br />their dress, conduct, and performance is really special.

So... what grade is Lelalu in?

She's definitely a graduate, Don. She was really concerned about getting out of the helicopter because she had modest shorts on. She said she would be expected to wear a dress and to do otherwise would be disrepectful. When she found that no adults came out, she exited the obscured side of the helicopter.

What are all the different hand jestures suppose to mean?

I was pretty sure I didn't want to know, so I didn't ask, Steve.
