Description: You never have to mow a water runway, but sometimes the beach needs a little work. There was a lot of rain in the interior last week, and the James River flooded above Richmond. The rapids through the city were closed to everyone for several days. Today the debris showed up here.

Tree trunks and limbs, enough beaver sticks to dam dozens of ponds, One shoe, four tennis balls, countless empty whiskey bottles. (What's wrong with those people?! If you absolutely have to toss a glass bottle in the river, please at least leave the cap off so it will sink where you are and not wash up on somebody else's beach downstream.)

When I lived in Minnesota my neighbor had a deer carcass wash up on his beach minus the head...some a**hole huh! A true sportsman.

AH the joys of waterfront living Don !! That looks like the beach area at Turtle Cove...every spring and after every east wind storm. Still well worth it though...isn't it ?

Turtle Cove is nicer, Dave, (except for winter), but it's certainly worth the occasional beach cleaning to be here.<br /><br />A few more tree limbs washed up yesterday, but I think most of the rest is safely on its way to Newfoundland now.

Up on the Chesapeake Don, we would receive this pile on our 250' dock after a storm, 1-2 times per winter. I know the mess you have. We'd get (former) dock pilings washed up, trees and parts thereof; if you have Osprey, the light stuff makes good nesting material. Still can't beat the waterfront living--as long as you stay young; that's why we're in Fl.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Florida is a very nice place to visit, Frank, but I'm counting on staying young forever.

Hi Don:<br /><br />Been a water rat all my life and have managed to live next door to the Great Lakes for most of my days. I love it! Yes, the #$#@# government bureaucrats try to drive you into bankruptcy with taxes but with only one life to live, I simply cut out other things so I can pay them. It is beautiful, even in winter (at least to me).<br /><br />I get the same sort of spring mess to clean up, as well. (G) <br /><br />Best,<br />Larry <br /><br />

Larry, we could have a "Can You Beat That Contest" pitting your government bureaucrats against ours on Lake Hartwell (Army Corps of Engineers).<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Don, thanks again for your hospitality. Good thing I left before you put me to work!<br /><br />If anyone is traveling through Virginia, stopping by Don and Carol's place is a must. It's a terrific spot. And they got spare bedrooms. And food.

We're glad you could stop over, Mark. Sorry all that junk showed up in the bay and on the beach over night and kept us from water flying. (It's gone now and the beach is clean again.)
