This island can be rented with or without a houseboat. Cost is maybe $500-$700 per night. Located in Caloosahatchee River 10 miles west of Ft. Myers. Comes with grille, hammoch, and thatched roofed gazebo.www.littleshellisland.com(Not my rental)

I work about a mile south of this island at Shell Point. There is a tremendous amount of boat traffic that <br />passes right by it - virtually all boats going back and forth from Ft Myers, Cape Coral and the gulf. <br />However it is idle speed only right along there. It's a hundred yards or so to where you can open up <br />(and take off!). There are scary signs posted telling folks to stay off. It's such s public place that I've <br />never seen anybody disobey.

Here's one reason folks stay off Dan, there's a large chain link-<br />type gate at the end of the <br />dock.<br /><br />I think there are plenty of unbooked days too, have never seen <br />anyone there with one exception--with the houseboat.
