Description: Here's where that empty barge is going--one of the local sand mines, this one on the Appomattox, near Petersburg, Virginia. Sand pits, they call 'em hereabouts. I've always been fascinated by the color of the water in these pits.

In the background is a hill. it's a fine example of American manufacturing, early in the 21st century.
