Description:
Hopewell, Virginia, doesn't have a lot of shipping traffic, but it does get a freighter or two each week. Here's one (of Chinese registry) heading toward the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, about one hundred miles downstream.
The tide was out, so I guess the tug was alongside to make sure the ship stayed in the channel.
The Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge is already up. Beyond the point is the Tar Bay Archipelago. The longest island is the infamous 'Wake Island' that you might recall from an earlier post, where Aventura Matt and I learned about fast-moving heavily-laden container ships.
Behind me is City Point, where General Grant had the world's busiest seaport in the final months of the Civil War. It's a National Park now.
