I know the FCC frowns on using cell phones in the air. But the <br />FAA doesn't seem to care--and certainly in situations like this, <br />safety ought to trump bureaucracy. So The Garmin Pilot app <br />was running on my iPhone, helping me dodge the heavier <br />showers. It works just fine when I stay low. <br /><br />This video is a bit jumpy because I was just below the shear <br />and the air was unsteady, but maybe you can see the loop <br />showing the rain move away in 15 minute steps. The radar is <br />updating in one place--no trouble getting the data. (The extra <br />horizon gizmo on top of the glareshield is Dynon's D1 'Pocket <br />Panel,' which I've been beta-testing.)<br />

Nice, Don! I just got the D1 and it's working perfectly so far. Have you had any problems or glitches with it?<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or > missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

The latest software update has been working pretty well for all the beta testers, Richard. Overall, the D1 is slightly slower than the D10A and Dynon's bigger EFISes, and the screen is shiny, so it's a little harder to read in a SeaRey in bright sunlight--but still readable. But you probably don't need it in bright sun unless there's bad haze, and then it's good enough. Everybody has had fun testing the D1. Most of us have put it in the car and driven around with it, too. I don't know about future upgrades, but the menu allows for more features if they choose to add them.
