Or fly over and see it for yourself. It's at 37.356330, -77.309461.

Carol and I drove to this place yesterday to have a ground-level look-see. Here's what we saw while standing just to the upper right of the pachinko ponds in the photo at the top of the page and on the lower horizontal road in the second photo. It's a 180 degree panoramic shot.

Most of the lovely green algae had died, and up close the site was--well, you see it.

The gate guard told us that the facility used to be a tobacco processing plant and the pachinko ponds, he thought, were to clean the effluent before it was dumped into the James River. What do you use ferric chloride for?

Nobody's dumping anything these days. The facility is called 'The Sustainability Park' and is currently operated by Ace Recycling and something called Defense Services.

Besides your aero acumen Don, I have to admire your ability to entice your wife to drive to a recycle facility! Awesome.

Today I went back by SeaRey for a low-angle aerial shot. The grey mountain on the left is all wooden pallets.
As we drove around looking for the Pachinko Ponds, we discovered that the once-secluded pine forest has been converted to cardboard boxes sent to China to be sent back to us full of gizmos and goods to be sold by Amazon.com. And Amazon has just built this gigantic 'Amazon Fulfillment' center in the middle of the pine forest:

Not far from from the Amazon Fulfillment Center we came across this Northrup-Grumman facility.

I'm not sure what a facility is--or does--but it's clear that Northrup-Grumman doesn't want casual visitors to drop in to this facility unannounced.

The bottom shot is from the opposite corner today, Saturday. Hardly a car in sight. Yesterday, the lot in the foreground was chock full of brand new looking cars and SUVs.
