Description: The I-Fly people came
out with a portrait
mode on their GPS unit.
Turns out it fit perfectly
in the standard Searey
instrument panel. I
had
one cutout not in use
and was able to move
my compass to the
glare shield. That left
the center row empty.

I have my GPS (Garmin 560) mounted in the same location. It was originally installed in the middle of the panel between the pilot and copilot and was hard to see. It made all the difference in the world when it was moved right in front of my eyes where I could see it and operate it much better.

I did the same with my RV-7. I also velcrowed my Android tablet with Anywhere Map software. Getting the Dual ads-b receiver soon for inflight weather. I call all this poor man's glass. But I love it. Attachments:

Will the ads-b bluetooth the wx to your units or does it take a cord?

Matt Tucciarone - Nov 05,2012 Viewers | Reply
Mike, If you were asking me, the answer is yes. The receiver has it's own advanced gps antenna along with the ads-b, battery with plenty of life for flight and will bluetooth to my tablet. No wires at all. By the way, as long as I fly below 3000 agl I pick up a 3g signal and can even get my email in flight

Mike, That's my plan too. I just had to wait out the 720 and a program change to allow portrait viewing. Still working on my SR so I use the term 'wait' very loosely. I've contacted you before. I'm in McKinney. Got another one going to start in West DFW soon. Mark

Mark, I'd like to come see your project some time. Give me a call at 903 786-3840. Maybe
we could splash around on Lavon Lake afterwards. Mike

Not to leave everyone in suspense, but this is my first post to S&D -
newest, proud member of the Searey family and will take delivery next
week, I'm sure everyone remembers the anticipation! Needless to say it
will be awhile before I'm ready to fly any formations or anything - I'm
actually still working on my private license - jumping in with both feet as
they say. Kerry took me up for a demo ride about two years
ago and I knew I had to have my own Searey! Still can't believe the
adventure is about to begin! I'm in Azle, TX, just northwest of Fort
Worth near Eagle Mountain Lake... Chris

Welcome, Chris. You've made a great choice of airplanes!

Chris, It's good to have more Searey's showing up,in north Texas. Is
your Searey flying or is it the LSX kit that is comming next week.
Chris Saurenmann - Nov 06,2012 Viewers | Reply
LSX kit... I'm using the dual motivation of kit and flying lessons to get
both done (we'll see how that works!) so I figure 12-18 months before
I'm flying her around NTx

Chris. Glad you made over to 'delights' and 'sts' sites. Its a wealth of info. Plus
I've had phone conversations with Others, such as recently with you Mike, that
will save you $ from 'been there, already tried that' ideas.

    Mike,
What am I missing? The IFly web site only shows a horizontal display but yours shows a
vertical. What am I missing?

I have the identical arrangement as you, with the two center of the six pack empty. I'd love
to put a readable Vertical GPS in there.

Mark Mclaughlin - Nov 05,2012 Viewers | Reply
Frank, the only thing you are missing is the program update that will turn it
portrait style. You should call IFly folks directly. They said they were going to do
this sometime this year. Appears they have done so.

Mike Purinton - Nov 05,2012 Viewers | Reply
Frank, The last update added the ability to use portrait mode.
The one before that added terrain warning among other stuff
so if you haven't updated for a while your in for a treat. If you
do update I would recommend that you update the software as
a separate update because it's rather large. After that then
update the charts etc on another update.
