Great pictures Don. This one is spectacular.Nice to see how the ' other half ' lives.
The water levels here are at mid summer levels. Folks are already extending their docks.

Ah, the other half. Around here, Dave, that other half constitute about 0.0001% of the general population, and although from a distance they look like a lot like you and me, most of the general population are never allowed close enough to see that they live in a different universe entirely. No amount of money can purchase an admission ticket. One can get an inkling by reading Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby (but eschew the movie).
When my SeaRey was almost ready to fly I wrote to the manager of Sabot field, to inquire if I might be permitted to keep it there. The reply was of course polite and the manager, a pilot himself, expressed some interest in the airplane. But the answer was no, and I understood that I was not known to him or to his set--even though I knew that his set pronounced Sabot sah-boh, as in French.

Right about the trains, Bruce. It seems ironic that the wealth in Virginia stayed mostly north of the James and apparently needed the railroad to support their economy. It must have been much quieter when they relied on boats to haul cargo inland.

One of Virginia's slogans is 'Keep Virginia Green.' (It always amuses me because my parents had a lovely friend named Virginia Green. She was a keeper!)
