We have a winner. The blimp was pimping for 'Despicable Me 2' (I googled after I landed)

Can you get there by landing in the water and taxiing up a seaplane ramp?

Extra marks for bringing Splash back into the thread - but not ready to concede. I give you the Pumpkin Seed. A combination lifting body lighter than airship - long languishing in a hangar at N87 (Robbinsville NJ). Bill Williams, current president of the aereon corp is shown in picture pumpkin5. Last time I saw Bill was in 2011, and he was desperately seeking funds to keep the program alive - or at a minimum keep the Seed from losing its hangar space. Attachments:

Bucky Fuller understood that scale is everything in such projects. He realized that if you just made an enclosure large enough, a small temperature differential with the outside air would make it buoyant. He calculated that a geodesic sphere about half a mile in diameter would act as a solar-heated hot air balloon with a huge useful load that would never come down. That's because the surface area (of a sphere) increases on the square, but the volume, on the cube. So if the Pumpkin were a few times larger it would fly easily.

If you want to read a lot (a LOT!), Bucky's 'Everything I Know' lecture is online now: http://bfi.org/everything-i-know/eik-session-2
