For you time travel romantics, 'Somewhere in time' with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour was filmed there.
Beautiful hotel and grounds. Also a place that I'd like to go to.

It's quite a nice place. I've never stayed in it, but Carol and I once rented a tandem bicycle there and rode it all around the island.

What's really fun about visiting the island,,, there are no motor powered vehicles allowed on
the island. Lots of College Kids work with a Shovel & Scooper following the horse drawn
carts :-)

So splashing in with one's SeaRey for a night's stay is probably out of the question then??

You might be able to tie up in the harbor or find a ramp. But there's an airport, http://www.airnav.com/airport/KMCD
Hard to post when up north with poor wi-fi service. YUP , it's the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island. It does
have one motor vehicle, a fire truck. There is an airport, so you can land on the island. Once you land then
it's horse & buggy or bike to get to town

Believe it has ambulance as well as firetruck. landed a T210 there once with full aileron deflection all the way down final! Bridge is more exciting.......drove a pickup with bed mounted camper across, hands shaking so bad at north end, friend had to pull the pop-top and hold a can of beer to my lips. Day or two later.....................before I returned, a Yugo blew off the bridge and into water.
