There’s some really nice real estate for the unreal restless spirits.      Attachments:

For Fantasy Flying, this is a great line up (but I wouldn't want to pay the fuel bill).      Attachments:

The wrinkled ground is a fine precursor for the often bumpy air in Banning Pass.      Attachments:

Here’s a clue as to weather in the pass. Gorgonio Pass is one of the windiest places in southern California (or anywhere, for that matter). Cool coastal air gets sucked in through the narrow funnel bounded by the San Jacinto and Little San Bernardino Mountains, mixing with rising hot desert air. Sometimes the wind reverses, as with the katabatic Santa Ana winds blowing from a big high pressure area over the Mohave Desert. Either way, trundling through in a SeaRey when the winds are stirred up is spicy.      Attachments:

The moderate climate of the Coachella Valley is inviting to all kinds of tourists, not just the high-falutin’ Palm Springs crowd.      Attachments:

Here is the main reason to have a SeaRey in the southern desert: the salty Salton Sea! (The Salton Sea has a salinity of about 4.4%, as compared to 3.5% for the Pacific Ocean and it’s getting about 1% saltier every year.)      Attachments:

Got my seaplane rating in a J-3 there over 30 years ago.

I remember seeing advertisements for seaplane training on the Salton Sea, Chris, and thinking how great would that be! It was likely a much different place those decades past.

Dan, now you're flying around my old neighborhood. I just got back Tuesday from turkey day with my kids near Elsinore CA.

Would that be near Lake Elsinore, Russ?

Yes Dan, Wildomar is where my whole family live, it's the town just to the south of Lake Elsinore. We had many ultralight rallies at Lake Elsinore back in the early 80's. That's where I met Kerry for the first time while Lou Ann was flying their Advanced Aviation Cobra.
