Since there was no provision for a SeaRey aboard the yachts, I had to commute from Exuma International. No traffic worries and the scenery was splendid!

The weather was pretty typical of winter in the Bahamas: beautiful temperatures, brisk winds, some morning clouds and widely scattered light rain showers.

Passing by beautiful SeaRey splashes to get to work was a downside to flying a “working” plane.

Not all the sand adorning the shoreline was soft. One would have to carefully pick emergency landing spots.

Some of the shoreline on the ocean side was down-right intimidating.

A bumper for the waves? The Bahamas has no Corpse of Engineers so this was a completely natural design.

Combining soft and hard shores, this cove was a bit too small to accommodate a SeaRey on a wavey day in the Atlantic.

Even on the protected side, not all the quiet shoreline was softness and nice.

Soft at the edge, but harder ashore

It would be a tough job beaching along the old coral ridges.

Two sides of an island, neither offering attractive beaching for an itinerate SeaRey.

Wandering currents cut natural channels not following straight lines through the islands.

With a little more work the cove could grow into something suitable for SeaReys.

Sheer cliffs and pounding waves on one side and gentle white beach on the other. There was even a channel between the two worlds. Sweet.

With such a narrow cut the currents could be challenging. Maybe that’s why the little inflatable was steering away.

A narrow stretch of island provides clear delineation between the deep Atlantic and the shallow Bahamas Bank sides.

The shallow brown ridge in between sides shows some stubborn coral rock is holding out for a little bit longer.

Private parking, what a nice spot! Park in the calm water to wade ashore with a short walk to the dramatic side.

There are miles and miles of this. Small wonder the mariners congregate here during the winter.

It’s the Bahamas. Don’t you have any pictures with girls in them?

Now, Jon, you know Ann. I want to go back sometime. There are no girls in the Bahamas.

Well, okay...if you persist, there was a girl, or rather woman, that was memorable.

One evening the jet boys and helicopter guy insisted I join them for dinner and genial debauchery. The debauchery was of no interest, but they did promise dinner at a well known island restaurant. The promise of conch salad was too difficult to resist despite a long, fun day of SeaReying.

It was a debacle. The "restaurant" was nothing but a shack crammed full of tourists. When we finally found a table large enough to accommodate the entire aviation crew, it took twice as much time to find a willing waitress. She took our drink order and promptly disappeared. After thirty minutes of waiting the aviators were running critically low on alcohol. A riot was fermenting among the drink starved crew.

That's when an irresistible distraction intruded. She wiggled into the table next to ours with all the visual impact of Disney fireworks. The older gentleman accompanying her could have been easily overlooked had it not been for his gregarious ways. He dove right into the suspended airplane conversation. I paid enough attention to him to find out he was a smooth talking heavy-equipment salesman.

I was sitting at the end of our table, adjoining the one our new friends were occupying. As the loud, boisterous conversation drifted into various jet operations I found myself in the awkward social situation of being on the outside next to the quiet woman. We were both apparently disinterested in the direction of the general conversation. Instead of being rudely oblivious to the circumstances, I politely inquired about her interests.

Did I mention this woman was extraordinarily beautiful? It's only tangentially related to the story, but she would have been perfectly at home on the cover of any fashion magazine. Not that she was dressed in a flashy style. She was anything but, wearing only an island casual dress in a way that would make Gilligan Island's Mary Ann slink away in envy. I'm certain you would have had to search a thousand miles to find anyone with similarly perfect physical features.

Of course she was barely intelligent enough to engage in any conversation, right? WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!

I made the mistake of lightly engaging in conversation about her field of expertise, computers. In about 2 seconds I was lost in a maze of technicalities related to cyber security and data breaches and national security hacking. This was no mere electronic Wonder Woman, she was a cyber warrior engaged in international warfare on behalf of various agencies of the U.S. government. I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped to the floor as my eyes glazed over with incomprehension.

Then she brought me back by sweetly asking, "Do you have password protections on your computer?"

"Umm, yeah."

"It would take me about 10 minutes talking with you to figure out what your passwords are." It was comment not made boastfully, but as statement of fact.

Well, I'm not completely stupid. I've seen enough movies to imagine how dangerous a smart, beautiful lady can be. I changed the topic of conversation. I learned she was the salesman's second wife. They were in the Bahamas on vacation. I have no idea what her passwords are. Then our food finally arrived and the conversation gracefully ended.

What I (re)learned from this is it's best to avoid tricky situations. Don't engage in conversation with a lovely lady that's not your wife. And, definitely, NO pictures! Did you see the water? It's beautiful and tricky enough for me.

Only a beautiful woman (married or not) can take an aviator off the topic of flying. As for your aerial pictures, as always, things of beauty.

Not even a lame excuse like wanting to take a pic of all your "buddies" and accidentally capturing her image in the bottom left corner??

What can I say, Dennis, except, "She Blinded Me With Science, Hit me with Technology, And failed me in Photography!"

As usual, gorgeous Photos of not many touch and goes, Dan!
No pun intended..
