Description: I'm finally able to take people flying in my new Rey. I just don't have
the warm weather yet! Boy these airplanes really do attract pretty
girls! My son's girlfriend and I on a ride around the Chesapeake Bay
Bridge on a rather blustery day. I'm still amazed at the helicopter like
takeoff with 15 + knots of headwind. Amazing little airplane!

Your son's a lucky boy, Jeff--and so are you, with that pretty Searey! I like the black floats with the dark paint scheme.

Is that KMTN?

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 14,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Yep. Martin State. A little too much runway for this airplane! The floats are actually painted dark gray like the gray on the plane.
But I've already decided that when the floats get some more abuse and the paint starts chipping away (like they seem to do), I might
replace with the pure black unpainted ones. I think they'll still look good.

    Best looking panel - EVER!

.....and I want the Airmaster!

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 15,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Randy, although I came up with the idea of mounting the ipad in the center console (it wi-fi's with the Skyview), It was Angel
Rivera's beautiful work/help with the avionics and panel that I must give the credit.

    Yep, 3 best lookings!

All photos very nice Jeff. Don't like the ADIZ/SFRA or whatever on the GPS tho and I bet you like it even less.

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 15,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Kind of used to flying around (and in)the SFRA. But fortunately, most of the water areas are to the east of it and it's easy to stay out
of it and under the class B.

    Absolutely Beautiful, congratulations.

Jeff, is your Searey a Experimental (Kit) or Factory LSA?

Brian Furnell - Mar 16,2017   Viewers  | Reply
    Read the placard. Hahaha

John Tucci - Mar 16,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Brian, I see what looks like EXP on the strut, which leads me to believe it's experimental category. Unfortunately can't
read the placard on the panel. I only ask, cause Jeff says ""new"", new to him or new Searey.

Hope to hook up with you when your Searay gets UN-Winterized.

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 19,2017   Viewers  | Reply
John, Yes experimental. I said new because its the first time its been in Maryland for a year and it feels new! It spent 5 years in
Maryland as I sloooowly built it. Then I took it to Florida to supercharge it's completion. It was in Florida for a little over a year,
while I finished it with the help of Angel Rivera. Although I did a lot of traveling to Florida last year, it felt like I was bring home a
new toy when I got back to Maryland!

Paul... not in 175, but I am very close to the wash rack, which will be a good thing!

John Tucci - Mar 22,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Jeff, may I ask, did the factory do your paint? It looks like one of the factory schemes. My favorite one, red and white is my second
pick. I'm contemplating an Elite, at this stage of my life I'm not looking to build and want to fly sooner than later. I sold my Diamond
the end of 2009 and miss it. Can't wait to take the grandkids up. If all goes well, I'll visit the factory in June to get a demo and check
the ""Fit"".

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 24,2017   Viewers  | Reply
John, I used All County Collision Repair in Eustis FL for the paint work. They also paint PA's factory planes as well. I liked the factory
Gray, Silver, Burgundy scheme as well however I did two things differently. Instead of using the exact colors, I stood out in the
parking lot with Richard DiMarco the owner, and chose the colors from paint samples, and chose a much darker ""silver"" for the
bottom. Also, although more expensive, I chose the paint with metal flake. PA paints their birds with a flat color paint. And although
the metal flake is more expensive, it looks like metallic paint on a car and really sparkles in the sunlight.

That being said, I must admit that I am having second thoughts about my beautiful paint job. If I start beaching my airplane, as I
know that I want to, I'm going to quickly ruin this paint. So I have a choice, limit the fun factor to save the paint, or go for it and ruin
my hull paint. In hind sight, I think I would choose a paint scheme that left the hull white.

John Tucci - Mar 24,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Jeff, are the factory paint jobs 2 stage (Clearcoat)? I would think yes, especially yours with the metallic paint. Thanks for the heads
up, I didn't think of that. Should the Searey be in my future, I believe it will be, I won't have near the water access you enjoy here in
the northeast, but it still is something to ponder. As I mentioned, I like your pInt scheme and the Red and White, 2014-present
scheme. Out of all the new 2017 paint schemes Don posted, I like the red and white. Not sure what the factory was thinking with the
red and black paint.

I'm sure many of my questions will be addressed in June when I visit PA.

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 25,2017   Viewers  | Reply
John, That's affirmative. 2 stage with clearcoat.

And I like Dennis' thinking. Be careful for a year, then don't worry about it! Nothing says ""fun"" better then a ""well used"" Searey!

Don Maxwell - Mar 25,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Always be careful, Jeff. Just don't worry about the paint.

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 26,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Good advise Don. Since it took me 35 years of flying to get my first airplane, I have a feeling I'm going to be more careful than I let
on to be!

Dennis Scearce - Mar 24,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Just be really careful for a year or so. Then, if it is like mine, it will have enough scratches and dings that you won't sweat it anymore.

Don Maxwell - Mar 22,2017   Viewers  | Reply
New factory colors! PA just tweeted a link to this today: https://www.instagram.com/p/BR8lVGEhXme/

John Tucci - Mar 22,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Thanks for posting those Don. The Red & White looks nice, not a fan of the other schemes. The Mrs likes the light Blue. I still prefer
the previous years Gray, Silver and Burgundy paint.

By The Way, I've become addicted to your You Tube Videos!

Don Maxwell - Mar 25,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Thanks, John--but that means it's time for you to start posting your own Searey videos!

But being in the snowbelt makes you glad you have a hangar! My hangar rent is worth every penny. I can sleep during a snowstorm knowing my plane isn't outside with a ton of wet snow on the wings.

Hey neighbor, I see you finally made it up to MD. I see the you are just beginning to explore the
Bay. It is a Real SeaRey playground. The best splash areas are the Chester River above Chestertown
and in the many creeks & River South of Rt 50 on the Eastern Shore. As for food, then look up my
Mid-Atlantic Google map.

Between the cold, snow and winds, It has been a tough Winter for flying this year. Here is a video of
my February flight. The gusty crosswinds made it sporty getting into Essex's narrow runway.

We will have to get together sometime for some local 2 ship flying.

Oh by the way, Jerry Radcliffe SR is based just across from Martins in the Summer.

Robert, another great video! Glad you're back on the bay.

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 26,2017   Viewers  | Reply
That is a great video! I'm real familiar with the areas that you went so I was glue! And I love your hangar! Interesting that you
mentioned the Chestertown River north of Chestertown. I've been told that it is freshwater. How fresh is fresh? Is that one of our
only options for freshwater? Or is it still basically brackish?

I can't wait to connect this summer on some SR adventures.

Robert Richardson IV - Mar 26,2017   Viewers  | Reply
The Chester River above a Chestertown is fresh, though I always hose my plane down after every water flight. It is part of my salt
water protection routine.

Hey, Rob, it's good to see your Phaeton in the air again after its refurbishment.

Carr, Frank  - Mar 25,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Liked your video Robert. You passed over my old home at 01:56 on Kent Island. I like your map and annotations, but as a former
Md. Eastern Shorer, I'd like to see your video in real time. I'm sure others would be bored, but I left MD for FL and building my SR,
so I have only Piper videos (from on high) of the old homestead. Great job. Now, if Spring comes, maybe we cans see more.

You guys are sure making me miss flying in the bay area! Jeff, do you have a keel guard? We didn't have one but considered it.
Although I beached in a variety of spots (including the Essex Seaplane Base) we didn't have any ""beach rash"" on our hull. The
guard is a bit expensive and adds about 10 lbs, but it seems it would take the brunt of the beach wear.

Sauers, Jeff - Mar 27,2017   Viewers  | Reply
I opted to not add the keel guard. I knew I would be a little heavier due to the prop, so I decided to scratch it. I guess time will tell
if I regret it. I have heard arguments both ways.

Don Maxwell - Mar 26,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Paul, if the beaches in your area are sandy, a keel guard may not be worth its weight. But if they tend to be stoney, I think it is. The only disadvantage I think of is that the hull won't slide well on wet wooden ramps with the keel guard.

Robert Richardson IV - Mar 26,2017   Viewers  | Reply
Don is right that most of the Bay is muddy or sandy, but there place with rocks. I believe the keel is well worth its weight. Patching
gel coat is no pleasant task.
