Description: I spent the past year looking into all the options for a floating dock with an
eye to minimize cost. I ended up finding a couple of key components (I.e. 2
Float cells from West Marine for 139$ and a ramp hinges for 35$ a piece,
everything else I bought from Home Depot. Total cost platform and cost @1k.
I finished it last weekend and flew down this weekend to test out my new
floating dock. Very happy 😎 with how it worked out. Now I can fly down to
my Chesaeake Bay water front property and dock Phaeton overnight. I could
have built a U shaped dock but this works.

Handsome seaplane at a handy dock! It's a good looking combination, Rob. The creek looks nice, too.

Nice looking setup Rob. How much fluctuation in water level can the dock handle ?
What are you using to protect the hull from boat wake bashing. I see the white strips as edging, but maybe a couple of
kids noodles could be added for protection. A John Dunlop patented idea.

Dave, I was there today and can say that the dock works very nicely. The tide fell about 1.5 or 2 feet while I was there. The narrow part is what handles the ups and downs; it's about 8 feet long, I think. Rob may post a photo or two on STS of the way his Searey sat at the dock today. There's an interesting story, but rather technical for Splash and Dash.

Looks great Rob!! It's always such a challenge docking the Searey. Yours looks to make it easier. Perfect height.

How do you board a passenger?

Man handle the the plane 180' turn. I had thought to build a u-dock but cost too much.

Rob, can you provide the part # of those floats?
My lake level varies enough that a regular dock won't work, and I've been thinking of something like this.

    Key parts
Floats are two 3x4 Play Star floats from West Marine - http://www.westmarine.com/buy/playstar--marine-dock-float--16245474

Ramp hinges are Gangway Hinge Setup from Dockbuilders.com

I had to add a large Taylor super-guard fender under the water end of the ramp to off set the weight of the ramp.
http://www.westmarine.com/buy/taylor-made--super-gard-fender-two-pack-white--17013939

The dock edging was soft dock bumpers.
http://www.westmarine.com/buy/taylor-made--premium-dock-post-bumpers--P005_157_006_004

The rest was Lowes best lumber and deck hardware.

About $600 in material costs and two weekends to build.
