A diving trip was arranged near Pulau Airbore. It was some distance from SuRi and would take the dive boat almost an hour to get there. The owner decided we should just fly there in the SeaRey and the dive guides could catch up. I was told that the boat would meet us at the local village.
Arrival at the village by SeaRey was anything but low key. The village turned out to see the spectacle. The children were ecstatic at the prospect of a flying toy.
It didn't take long for the chief to arrive. He was attended by the a representative from the local conservation group. It could have been trouble.
It wasn't. The chief wanted a flight. So did the environmental lady, Yiti. I took her up to photograph local reefs. Her group was monitoring the increasing tourism of the area for the government, hoping to help the natives exploit the natural beauty without destroying it.

SuRi's Captain likes to put the boat into spectacular places.

As I flew over I saw an approaching storm on the horizon. "Is your radar showing the storm fifteen miles north?" I radioed.
"Um, no. Standby."
There is no "standing by" in a SeaRey. I flew great lazy circles overhead.
"We're not showing the storms. The rocks could be blocking the radar. How long before the storm arrives?"
Well, I'm no meteorologist. All I could say is that it was moving closer as we talked.
"Okay. We're relocating to open water."
The storm had largely dissipated before it arrived. Who knew?

We weren't alone at our overnight anchorage. Another yacht from Los Angeles had arrived earlier in the day. It was full of movie producers and stars. A couple of them wrangled flights in the SeaRey. As I returned from a late flight with the owner of the yacht, he was met by his captain. "We have got to get one these!"
Even in the dim light I could see the Captain shudder.

The word yacht has a whole new meaning now. That baby looks like three Christmas trees standing in Rockefeller Center with fresh ice in the rink.

I have no idea how they are going to fit it with a hangar for their new SeaRey, Don. Maybe they can pull a barge behind it?

New Years broke with fireworks. Much too close for comfort for a SeaRey pilot.

At the end of a trip the GPS paths look pretty busy. "Good coverage" is my assessment.

You know the trip is almost over when the owner's jet makes his arrival pass.

You want evidence you're not flying in a security crazed world? How about people sauntering alongside the runway? SeaRey or B737, doesn't matter. There is a loud runway alarm that sounds. It is mostly ignored, though no one crossed the runway while the alarm was going off.
How does the owner of the yacht get to the airport to meet his jet? By jet helicopter? No, his preferred mode of arrival is by SeaRey.

At the end, the salt has to be cleaned off so that the SeaRey will be all set for the next adventure.

What do they rinse it with? (Or, does SuRi have a huge desalinization plant?)

It may be silly, but Sierra Romeo gets a luxurious soaping followed by a long, slow soaking in very fresh water from SuRi's unlimited supply through the reverse osmosis plant. Then she gets lathered in Corrosion X. She's a slick girl when she's put to bed.
