With less than five weeks to the start of the 2006 Georgian Gaggle, we have only a few more days to confirm our reservations with the Midland Best Western. Early next week the hotel will be asking me to begin releasing some of the rooms that I am holding.
For information on the Gaggle and those who are coming check the following link:
http://www.seareycanada.com/GAGGLE.htm

    Don't look now but as of this morning 11 SeaReys, a Storch and a Helio Courier have positive accomodation for the Georgian Gaggle. This is going to be HUGE!

Anyway, the point of this message is that the Best Western has run out of rooms with double beds and now only has some kings available for the week (unless there are cancellations.) IF you think you might come PULLEASE get your reservations completed NOW.... (You can always cancel later..)

    Hmmmm, it seems I happened to coinkidinkally take this week off from work. And this sure looks interesting, BUT:

I just bought a camp on a lake that I need to winterize, and will take alot of my spare change this year;

I have yet to undertake such a long distance flight in my Stingray. If I were to do this, I would want to wing together with a Searey from Maine, or form up somewhere along the way;

Never flown to Canada. Not sure what's involved with customs and so forth (is a transponder required?);

I would be alone (Stingray's a single-seater afterall). Rather than get there and look like a lost puppy or 'odd man out', I'd want to 'team up' with someone who is familiar with this event, if you could stand another person.

I am not a socialite and do not drink. But I still would look forward to a flying event such as this, especially with so many Seareys. So, I am thinking perhaps next year might be possible for me to plan ahead on.

Another note - I've suspected that this is the event that kills the Searey group's enthusiasm for the Greenville Maine Seaplane Fly-In....after folks fly to the Gaggle, no one is up for another big event in Maine so close afterwards. This is understandable, and I'm not griping, just making an observation. However, the Seaplane Fly-In still could be an event for anyone unable to make the Gaggle. I did have my Stingray at Greenville last year. Not sure if I'll have it there this year or not.

Thanks for reading my rambling.
Mark, it would be great to have you up here. Hopefully you and Jim can work something out.
If you want a bit more info on Canadian requirements Copa/Aopa have an excellent cross border flying document that I ca email you and anyone else interested. Yes, a mode C transponder is required.
The date of the Georgian Gaggle was chosen later in the summer to permit the pristine waters of Georgian Bay to warm enough for comfortable swimming. (Yes comfortable. Ask previous Gagglers!) (Well don’t ask the ones from Florida…) We considered the week following Oshkosh as a convenience for those attending that event. Originally we planned GG every other year but now with more SeaReys in Southern Ontario we have enough local interest for an annual event. But I think that those who choose to attend from afar probably have more interest in attending different events each year.. Greenville should certainly be on their list..
Hey Mark, I want to check out the Greenville flyin. Whats that all about? I am riding, not flying to the gaggle as I am deemed undesirable x-insurance in CA. SOooo 147TL stays parked.

    Tom - here's the site:

http://www.seaplanefly-in.org/

However, you'll notice that it hasn't been updated since last September, and there is very little info about this year's event except for the dates. Most of the site is about previous years, and it's history (worth reading). I've heard that Folsom's Air Service has moved from the seaplane base up to the airport, leaving question as to whether or not there is even going to be a seaplane fly-in this year. I haven't heard much else about it. This is a BIG event that is entering it's 33rd year, so it's hard to imagine it will suddenly end. I'll post more about it if I find out more.

    John - right now, I am planning on flying up with Jim Timoney in his Cherokee Wednesday evening. Jim has a ride with Dave Lima for Thursday's sortie. If I can also hitch a ride with someone for that sortie, that would be great; if not, can you advise me of what to do for that day? Do all the Seareys, normally, fly on these sorties?

    Mark, you will have a great day shopping with Martha and the rest of the girls. They are very good at it and before you know it, they'll have you convinced that's it's actually fun! I see that you don't drink, well after 1 day with these woman, it just might be time to start. In reality, you can probably catch a ride with someone.

    Dave - how could I possibly plan on a day of Searey flying, when I could go shopping with the girls?

As they say, girls don't go shopping, they go shooooopping.

    That is great Mark. There will be two or three SeaReys with empty right seats. I no longer have a guest coming from Germany and daughter Brittany will not likely be in Midland on Thursday so my seat also should be available (as long as you are relatively light. Relative to me that is!)

I see that Jim Timoney is now booked at the Best Western August 2-5. Are you planning to bunk with him?
Mark Alan MacKinnon - Jul 12,2006 Viewers | Reply
    John - yes, right now the plan is I'm sharing a room with Tim. When his wife heard I was going, she bailed out. (just kiddin)

I'm 145 lbs. Is that light enough?

    Youv'e got that right John. I flew 5 hours this past week but the wx all around has been marginal. Yesterday 4 a/c from Hanover spent the day at Picton as the cb s precluded their continuing journey to Iriquois. Hope we don't have a repeat of last year.
Dave King and I are pumped !!

    Anyone flying to the Georgian Fly-In (hate the word gaggle) that might need fuel, I have a tank at my runway. Bob Toerner is coming on Sunday for the night, after that we'll be gone Monday afternoon, however I can leave a key for the pump. 43 50.45 N 080 36.03 W are the co-ordinates. 8 miles west of the town of Arthur, 10 miles north of Drayton. 519-574-8876
