In an effort to keep up with Lima, check out the vintage jon boat I just bought off of ebay. Barbara and I will be traveling to Eustis, FL week after next to get it. Every man needs a jon boat, a tractor and a Searey. Barbara thinks it's 'cute'. It will probably get named 'RESCUE 1' which should give you an idea of why she wanted it.
Attachments:

    Hey,

I thought a Jon boat was a flat bottom boat ???

Here is my Jon boat story ............... I bought a flat bottom boat from Sears in mid 70's and installed a 20 H.P JLO snowmobile engine in the boat. I put a 36 in.
Banks-Maxwell airboat propeller on the engine. Does anyone remember the
Banks-Maxwell propeller company in Texas ??? They are no longer in business
because some DUMB-ASS stuck his hand into the prop at full R.P.M..........he lost
his hand , but received 1-million dollars because Banks-Maxwell did not put a slip
of paper in the shipping box that said ' HEY DUMB-ASS ', keep your hand out of
the spinning prop, Good Judges are hard to find.

Any way, the airboat did about 25 M.P.H., had a lot of fun with it, until my daughter
flipped the boat, making too tight of a turn. She flipped the boat about 300 feet away
from me. The engine would spin the prop about 4500 R.P.M. and that is where she
had it, until I heard that sickening sound of a wood prop smacking the water ..........
the silence was deafening. Thankfully, she was in about 18 in. of water and I
immediately started running towards her. We have all read about Jesus walking
on water and I don't challenge ............ however, I have the record for the fastest
RUNNING on water , 300 feet ...... seconds, mere seconds. Do you know how
many prayers you can say in 300 feet ???.

Any way, she was thrown clear of the boat ...... no tears, but HUGE eyes.
After righting the boat, I noticed what looked like a thousand toothpicks in a
straight line for about 50 to 100 feet from the rear of the boat. My gosh, thats
half of a Banks-Maxwell prop floating there. Strange thing ....... 1 / 2 of one
blade is gone, the other blade looks just like new. Funny thing .......I still have
that propeller sitting on a shelf in my shop next to my SeaRey.

When it is all said and done, I know that in Michigan, a flat bottom boat is called

' A JON BOAT '
Ummm...I still have my 2 blade IVO magnum. Wonder how it would do on the back on my boat? Great story, Terry. I think both hull designs are called Jon.

I love a story with a happy ending, Terry. I hope yours works out a little better, though, Dennis.

Yeah, me too. Just going after it with Barbara is high risk. Since the trailer hasn't been road worthy in probably 20 years, I figure it needs tires and wheel bearings. Maybe some maintenance on the hitch. I'm going to use some magnetic lights that I use when towing cars to avoid having to wire the ugly thing while in someone elses driveway 600 miles from home. Then we start home, pulling it with our '99 Toyota with 211K on it. Should be a real adventure. Worse case is I leave it all on the side if I-95 and rent a mini cooper convertable to drive the rest of the way home.
