Here's an interesting weather tool that I discovered recently. On this page...<br /><br /> <a href="http://www.noaa.gov/">http://www.noaa.gov/</a><br /><br />...search for a city and state or zip code. Then click on 'Hourly Weather Graph' in the lower right corner. (Some cities might not have the hourly graph.)<br /><br />Here's a sample for Richmond, VA: <a href="http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Richmond&state=VA&site=AKQ&textField1=37.5536&textField2=-77.4606&e=1&FcstType=graphical">http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Richmond&s<br>tate=VA&site=AKQ&textField1=37.5536&textField2=-77.4606&e=1&<br>FcstType=graphical</a><br /> <br /><br />Another interesting WX tool is the ADDS Experimental site, especially the prog charts, which show rain predictions: <a href="http://weather.aero/progs/">http://weather.aero/progs/</a>

Don,<br /><br />Have you seen this site that uses the NOAA data to make a graph that I find a bit more intuitive than whats on the actual NOAA:<br /><br /><a href="http://usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?sta=KIPJ&model=avn&state=NC&Submit=Change+Location">http://usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?sta=KIPJ&model=a<br>vn&state=NC&Submit=Change+Location</a><br /><br />

Yeah, I look at it every day. It is more intuitive, but the NOAA site has a lot more info.

Here's a Norwegian site that has world coverage: <a href="http://www.yr.no/">www.yr.no</a><br />Just type the name of any place on the planet and you get up to ten days of weather. (They also indicate probability that they're right!)<br />For the first 60 hours they also have an hour-by hour map indicating clouds/precipitation.

That's pretty cool, Bard. I found 'Lake Norman of Catawba' and I like the hour by hour map, especially the wind arrow. Now, if I can only learn to think in metric units...

Rule of thumb here is that m/s multiplied by 2 gives roughly wind speed in knots - which is what interests pilots and sailors alike.<br />

Dennis Scearce - Apr 13,2009   Viewers  | Reply
OK, I have the m/s converted to mph (multiply m/s by 2.2). Where do I find the probability of the correctness?

Don Maxwell - Apr 13,2009   Viewers  | Reply
I don't find the probabilities, either, Dennis. Converting m/s to knots is even easier--it's very close to 2x. (Google says 1 (m/s) = 1.94384449 knots.)

Bård Sørbye - Apr 14,2009   Viewers  | Reply
Probability of correctness is colour coded in the long term forecast. Green square means 'Rather certain', Red square means 'Uncertain' and the yellow is somewhere in between.

Thanks, B&#229;rd! That's really cool. It's so cool it's hot (and much hotter than Bekkestua right now).

Compared to your back yard, it is pretty cool most of the year, Don!
