I am looking for a build log software to use. I have seen Sea Rey builders use Kit log Pro and have been flowing 3 that I know of on the Internet. I would like to know if any one used anything else?<br />I have found 2 advertised on Aircraft Tool Supply, Kit log Pro @ $50.95 and My Kit Airplane @ $64.95. I have not seen the latter in action but the latter looks like a better software by the description. Any thoughts?

Gee, I never thought of actually buying software specificaly for that. Does it do something truly unique? I just kept a log using Word that I already had on my system and inserted pictures as I went along.

Do you post your build on the Internet? I have been following 3 Sea Rey builders on the Internet and they are using Kit Log Pro. I would like to follow more builders but don't know how to find them.<br />If you post your build on the net how do you do it without Kit Log Pro? If you don't post your build, why not? Others who may want to build would like to get pointers and mods.

Pointers and mods are posted on the Searey Technical Site (STS). I used Microsoft Excel to keep track of my hours in a log and took digital pictures as I went. Many of my mods are posted on the STS site.

How would I find those three builders logs? I've Googled and found some in the past but nothing new.

Thank you so very much. These are really informative.

All you new builders need to get this software and post on the web so we can watch. <br />Especially the new LSX builders so we can see the new mods. It also helps to judge how long it takes to build. It looks like from the others I have seen, it is taking 2 or more years if you build in your spare time.<br />I got the software from Aircraft Spruce &amp; Specialty for $49.00

I am now on the web at <a href="http://www.mykitlog.com/tab380">http://www.mykitlog.com/tab380</a><br />Even though I have not got my kit yet, I wanted to get the log started.

Looks good Thomas. Now that you have used the software and uploaded it onto the web what do you think? I am still very happy with my Kitlog software except that you can only load 3 photos per entry.

They should have included a instruction paper that showed what to do. I just experimented till I found how to do stuff.<br />Also do they have a spell check? I need it and had to run my quickbooks next to it to check my spelling.<br />I have looked at your build and like all the mods you did and will do a lot of them, but do you think you may have added a lot of weight with all the extra bracing?<br />Did you come up with all those mods your self or are they published by the Australian dealer?

I found it quite straight forward to use but there is probably a 'help' page somewhere in the software. Some of the mods are my own ideas, some come from this site and some from Rob Loneragan. I bought the ally tube for the trusses through Rob who sourced it especially for this purpose and they were not cheap. Not sure what the weight is but they are very strong and light so am not worried about the extra weight as would prefer a little extra weight for the extra strength. As with all mods you look at what others do and decide yourself if it is worth doing. I certainly don't do everything I see on this site or what Rob as done but as he is onto his 4th Searey build I listen to him carefully..

I'm on my forth Searey - same serial number - I just keep tearing it up.....

Thomas, I haven't posted my log on the internet but have posted anything unique that I've done on STS, along with replies to other builders questions. I felt that posting my entire log somewhere on the net would just be a lot of superfluous info to wade through. I kept the log more for my own records and as a requirement of the Canadian Amateur-Built process.

Well I like to see/watch other builders progress and see the time line and any mods they do. When I get my kit I will follow any pointers that they post and probably do some of their mods. I will be using Kit Log Pro and post my build on the web. I just think every one should do the same so we all know the latest technique and mods that builders come up with.<br />Also when PA makes a change in the kit as in the LSX, every one can see what the changes are.<br />I also get to know the builder and the plane they end up with and will know them when I see them at a gaggle. I went to the Garners gaggle and did not know any one or what plane went with who.<br />I'm sure I know who owns the Sea Rey with the checker broad rudder. It Chris Leng. He posted his build. You'll know me when my plane shows up at the first gaggle I can fly to.

Thomas,I'm sure you'd agree with Dennis that my 5-year log is too long to read---and,even tho I've flown, I'm still not done! I've now got 32 more pages in Log #2. I used Xcel to track costs, and weight and CG, and MS Word for my constuction log but only for the 'search' function so I could find what I was looking for (and that was useful).<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.     So is 5 years normal? How many days a week or month do you work on it. <br />I talked to some one else who took 5 years, they built as the money be came available for the engine and other stuff.

Thomas, the fastest amateur-build time is less than one year. I think Roberta Hegy may still hold the record.

Thomas, from what I hear, 5 years is unusually long for a SR. My build time was interrupted by designing and building a home, then moving, plus some family surgery and extended recovery issues. A better measure might be hours. But even there I logged more than most according to Kerry. Besides being slow, I spent a lot of time looking for the tool that I regularly misplaced. My real point was that the builder's log is really important, I believe, to the builder and should take whatever form you wish. I personally saw no need for software.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Thomas, the time it takes will depend on the builder. I took two years with quite steady building and a mountain of hours, but I can turn the simplest thing into a major project. I always tell people that you have to enjoy the journey, not just the destination. In my opinion, it wasn't something to just get done, it was more important to me to know I took the greatest care on each item along the way. I had no hesitation with tearing something apart if I felt there was a better way. I've been flying it for over three years but I'm still building it! My log consisted of a daily entry with time spent and cumulative time to date. It was a summary of each day's activities along with any comments or problems, so there was a fair amount of boring verbage. I also took hundreds of pictures of various parts and details as I went along.
