Just remember (as we win the hockey gold medals in both men and women) We're still friends.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYoTJItSPt0

And we're fortunate to have such friends. Even as we take all the other medals.

Yup, the USA looks pretty good to win it all.

I just hate the TV emphasis on counting medals. That's not what the Olympics are about at all.

If we have to pay attention to numbers, let's at least relate them to population. For example, the population ratio of the US and Canada is about 15:1. So we should expect a similar ratio of medals, and if the athletes of a small country do better than the ratio--that's all the more reason to admire them.

Sorry Don - I was just teasing Dave. I stopped being fascinated by the Olympics years ago. It just lost it's magic to me. I'd watch the highlights on utube except the greedy b*st*rds block it for the sake of profit.

Sorry, Ken! I wasn't aiming at you at all. Stayed up late last night half-listening to Bob Costa blathering about medals and went to bed feeling like I'd just eaten something moldy.

Huh! You guys should have to live with it for two weeks.

No parking in the village, Need a pass for the highway, can't get a restaurant booking. Oh, and no flying around here on pain of getting shot down. The security is just ridiculous.

Actually it's been fun. Hordes of good natured visitors, all appear to be having a good time. Went to two or three events, Skeleton, luge, two woman bob, ski jumping. Up close they just emphasise the enormous difference between them and the rest of us.

Our local high school had ten alumni in the Canadian team as well as a couple of exchange students competing, quite a lot of local interest.

I can imagine, Chris. I live across the border in Bellingham and have not gone just becuase I don't like crowds.

I just wish your hockey grrrls had come out and gone 'You bet we were drinkin' beer and smoking stogies. You know why? BECAUSE WE JUST WON THE FREAKIN' OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL!!!!!!!!'

    Hi Chris:

Years ago (1976), I was fortunate enough to represent Canada in the Olympics when it was held in Montreal. That Olympics also featured high level security (due to the murder of Isreali athletes in the preceding Olympics), but, as was the case in this Olympics, Canadians managed to provide competent security without impinging on the overwhelming joy of the event. To say that I was proud of both Vancouver and our country for the manner in which both organized and conducted this Olympics would be an immense understatement. I have talked to many who attended and all stated that it was a wonderful experience.

As for me, I can still remember marching into that magnificant 'Big O' stadium and hearing it erupt in frenzied jubilation when the Canadian team entered, as though it was yesterday...... and yes, I still cannot help shedding tears of joy when the opening ceremonies occur.

Best,
Larry
Congratulations on winning over Norway in the Curling final. I'm sure Norway wins in the Medals/population by a wide margin

You're right Bard, your country for a small population, has done the best. All I want is the other Gold medal for men's hockey. And Finland wins both hockey bronze medals, not bad! Think of the population of the USA over 300 million and their medal count....
(luckily Afro Americans don't like the cold very much or they would really dominate)
