I am searching for an online <br />video of the new LSX folding <br />wings, also want to clarify that <br />the Searey now is/isnot LSA <br />(or was is just the wing rating)

    It's on you tubehttp://<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoFJTDlsMys">www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoFJTDlsMys</a>

Thanks, Dave! That's the first complete demo I've seen. It looks like Kerry can fold or unfold both wings in less than 10 minutes.

I commend P/A for doing this, any advantage one can get over the competition is applauded.<br />I personally would not have a need for this right now, but one never knows in the future, and I'm sure it appeals to some of the new owners.

It is not yet certified as an LSA.

OK class, what did not get connected in the video???<br />There's more than one.<br /><br />However it is a folding wing video, not a ready to go flying video.

Wing cable but apparently, that isn't supposed to be disconnected for the maneuver.

Would be great if Ben or the admin could rename this post to 'Wing Pivot' or something like that for better searching.<br />

I think this folding wing design is a great idea. Before I bought my searey kit I was originally attracted to the folding wing design of the Icon, However, when I found the Searey, there was no turning back! It's nice to know you can keep it in you garage, easily put it on a trailer and launch it on the water if you want. No airports needed!<br />Of course when I finish mine, I'll be keeping it at an airport. But I like the versitility!

Not that I am a big fan of the Icon as a LSA (because of useful load) but the wing folding sure has most beat. Just push a switch. I do think this is a great option for someone who needs it. I don't think I would like to do this every time I wanted to go flying let alone trailer it to the airport or lake. I have a friend with a Glastar that he built with the folding wing option. He keeps it at an airport in a normal hanger just for this reason.

Just one note: I called &amp; talked to the icon people back in August before I ordered my Searey. Because of the amount of deposits(waiting list) you would not be able to get one for 5 years! (unless you put up a 100,000.00 deposit which buys you a 2 year wait)<br />Also, the automatic wing folding option comes at a heavy cost....no landig gear! Beacause of the motor's weight if you opt for the auto folding wings, you have to sacrifice gear, aka seaplane only. If you want the gear you must settle for manual folding wings (just like the searey!).

I presume the plane cannot float w stability w the wings folded... Center of mass vs. Center of bouyancy

Ben I wouldn't try it on water.... Hope that will not happen... <img src="inline/10082-folding_lsx.jpg" alt="folding_lsx"><!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->      Attachments:

Hi everyone. I am brand new to this site and right now wish that I had a Sea Rey. For now I have to be content with a share of a Cesna 172. Anyway, I wanted to stick my neck out with the thought that if the Sea Rey does not need to have one wing float in the water at all times when not moving then it would not matter whether the wings were folded or not as far as staying afloat. The weight being displaced is the same. Stability is another issue when faced with wave action from the side where the wing floats would help to stabilize the plane while extended they would not help and even potentially work against you causing a greater rolling action because of that center of mass issue. That's my thought if it makes sense good. :o) Any of you folks from up near NH?

Is that Photoshop or did the wings really fold up on the ICON?

That's great ha ha ha ha... I don't recall if the floats are off during wing folds and still wonder if it'd float <br />stably - say in a small wet slip at a marina

I can't see any reason to have folded wings in the water, but from what I saw at PA, the weight of the wing resting on the tail bracket would sink the tail and with the motor weight on top it would roll over too.<br />Also the prop wont turn with the wing folded, so you can,t troll down a skinny stream.
