Go, Russ! Do you have enough time to give yourself a good head start in case of bad weather en route?

    Jim Walsh and I so far, I hope I do better than last year. I met some trike drivers at GIF this morning that are head up the same time. Their machines fly between 85-90 mph so we my all hang out. One of the trike drives is a gal and she asked if might take her girl friend up with me. Could be interesting...

    Due to family matter I can't leave MD until Sunday (22 Jul) to fly into
the SB late Monday, an 8 hr flight. WX willing. As a newbie to the
Oshkosh fly in. Can any of you suggest good fuel stops and/or
overnight sites in Northern Ohio and lower Michigan area? I plan to
stay until Friday.

    Rob, in Ohio, there's o74 (Elliot's Landing Airport). Turf with a car gas station and restaurant at the end of the runway: News&p=SZVHT0000

Airnav: http://www.airnav.com/airport/o74

    Thanks Don - I had pulled that O74 from your 'SeaRey Travel Guide' list, it is 50 miles South of my route west. I did a little Googling and found these two sites that offered up potential MOGAS locations
* Air.nav.com - http://airnav.com/plan/fuel/
* Mogas Planning Map - http://www.chouby.com/apps/autogas.html
Then I compared their lists against the Seaplane Associations SeaBase registry and came up with a real possibility - Potawatomi Inn, Lake James, Angola, IN. It sits on a lg lake with a beach, that the Inn Mgr says I can easily beach on. If there is no marina on the lake, there is a field to the south with MOGAS. I think this is where I'll RON going in & out of Oshkosh. It kind of reminds me of the Lake Inn at Mt Dora.
Rob, I haven't been to Potawatomi, either, but my parents vacationed there once and liked it. (For a different trip--there's also a motel on Lake Monroe, in Indiana, but it's a lot farther south. There's a ramp that a SeaRey can taxi up.)

I couldn't get the www.chouby link to work.

The problem with Airnav's MOGAS listings is that almost none of them have the premium grade. Some marinas have premium gas without ethanol, but many of them aren't seaplane friendly. I just use 100LL on trips when premium mogas isn't easy to get.

Actually, if you stopped at o74 en route to Potawatomi, you'd add only about 4 miles to the route from Essex Skypark to the south end of Lake Michigan.

    I am leaving this Friday for OSH. I think there are some others leaving around that time. If
so, lets make it a party.

    Departed at 7:30 a.m. from Garner's Landing this morning for OSH. I made it to VLD before the air got to juicy, plan on an early start in the morning.
